Like my previous Avocet painting, this picture is the result of a visit to WWT Slimbridge's 'Wader Shore', a netted aviary which is home to Redshanks, Black-winged Stilts and of course, Avocets. It's ideal for wildlife artists and photographers because you can get very close to the birds and they seem happily oblivious to the people around them. I love watching waders so a few hours at Wader Shore filled quite a few pages in my sketchbook. Avocet
numbers in the UK have increased as a result of successful conservation
and protection projects by organisations such as the WWT and RSPB. As
the well-known symbol of the RSPB, Avocets with their striking colouring
and iconic shape are one of the UK's most popular birds. Read
more about Wader
Shore on my blog. Why choose an original painting? - Bring the beauty of wildlife into your home - Treat your family to a unique and special piece of artwork - Be the envy of your friends and family - no one else will have this painting
