Dragonfly paintings - Golden-ringed Dragonfly painting in acrylics

This dragonfly painting was inspired by the patterns of ripples set up by
the rock on a wonderfully sunny day in August. I'd actually gone to Cannop Brook in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, looking for Beautiful Demoiselle damselflies but I thought this Golden-ringed Dragonfly with its lovely striped body echoed the ripples and would work much better in the painting.

Dragonfly paintings offer a great opportunity to try out different wildlife painting techniques: for example the translucent wings of the dragonfly, different foliage textures, the movement of the stream and reflections in the water.
